Most visitors wish
to know a bit about the way a church body conducts itself in
worship. If you visit several churches, you will find that some
create their worship services to be attractive to visitors by
always preaching a less challenging message or providing plenty of
entertainment in order to avoid losing the interest of new
visitors. Visitors can potentially become a more important part of
the worship service content than the One who is being worshipped.
Quite the opposite,
other churches can, in large part, ignore visitors. Focusing on
routines and personal ways so intently that visitors may feel lost
in the service or unwelcome. Certainly it does not glorify God to
have visitors who are earnestly seeking to worship Him lost
because of difficult practices.
Different than
either of these approaches, we feel the Bible directs us to preach
an uncompromised message of truth and to conduct ourselves in a
manner that is grounded in Biblical example. The service should be
designed with our attention toward God alone, while making a
special effort to welcome interested visitors by avoiding
confusing words and traditions. Visitors should not be the focus
of the worship service design, but should be the focus of our
personal attention during and afterwards in fellowship.
The goal of our
worship is to glorify the Lord through prayer, praise and the
reading and teaching of the Bible. Weekly worship and a day of
rest is the Lord’s way of keeping us close with Him and it
restores us to one another as a body of believers. Our Sunday
morning worship is simple, respectful and filled with a wide range
of music and other gifts presented back to the One who is the
Giver of all.
Our services
include traditional and contemporary music, vocal and instrumental
soloists, choir and occasional drama. A focused scripture reading
and sermon is presented, and children who are learning piano or
instrument are asked to present their talents to the Lord as the
offering is taken. While there is order to our worship, we welcome
unplanned events as well when the Lord leads us.
New participants in
the worship service are always welcome to present their talents,
testimonies and assistance. We are a body of believers, praising
collectively. We realize order is needed, but it should not
exclude those wishing to praise the Lord in a respectful,
biblically guided manner.
Praise Band
Involving the youth
of our congregation in worship activities is very important to us.
Youth are invited to participate by bringing their talents before
the Lord in acceptable ways. Participating in the reading of
scripture, solo presentations in song and participation in a
contemporary praise band are several ways this occurs.
New members are
always welcome for instrumental or vocal performance.
Children’s Worship
Preschool and
elementary aged children generally remain in the worship service
with their families until an option for dismissal by the worship
leader is given just prior to the sermon. At this point, at the
parent’s discretion, children may attend a special Children’s
Church.
Separate from
Children’s Church, infants and those in pre-school are welcomed in
the nursery at any time during the service.
Nursery
Parents need time
to worship too! We realize the worship experience can occasionally
be difficult with very young children, so a rotation of volunteer
adult members staff our nursery during Sunday school hour and
worship services. In this way, each member and visitor can stay
close to the Lord by regularly worshipping without interruption.
Now there are
a variety of gifts but the same Spirit.
